2004 and 2006
– Crypt, Lighting, Installation, Soundtrack, Emily Young Sculpture
In 2004 Emily Young along with Wootton and Dawe and Gordon (Langley) and Annie (Hanson) and with some help from William (Borrell - although he had important dates to attend to in the evenings), completely cleared out, laid tracking for lighting the sculpture and the walkways, installed a sound system and, along with MTEC and Pattersons also installed some beautiful stone sculptures.
We spent days underground, sprinkled in ancient crypt dust, fixing into crumbling ceilings and digging rubble from rooms and walkways: taming history. It became addictive. Soon we were eating our meals down there, reluctant to head out into the summer daylight.
The exhibition featured a suitably atmospheric soundtrack by Arthur Jeffes. We also had a very enjoyable evening collecting suitably atmospheric noises, by boat, through subterranean Islington, with Emily's parents and other friends along for the ride.
We did it again in 2006.
The Crypt gallery remains a lasting legacy of our travails. Emily Young donated the lighting.
